The Brain Workshop - Managing Partner

For the past 3 years I have been a member of DBWC, a great platform for women in business to come together, learn, share experiences, support each other and in their own way, change the world. The diversity and caliber of workshops, training, and the initiatives to support women in business offered by DBWC means that interests and learning needs of the equally diverse members are met, from finance, to fashion, and from the neuroscience of leadership to emotional intelligence at work. Working with DBWC on one their events, only proved to me what I had already known of their level of professionalism, organization, and understanding to both ends of the story: the consumer and the product or service provider. I’m looking forward to more participation and more collaboration in the future, and wish the DBWC more success.

Since I became a member in DBWC it has been an amazing experience. It is the place where women feel empowered, boost confidence and comfort in their role. I really would like to thank, compliment and commend you on the most outstanding activities that I have ever attended. Every experience was very productive and insightful. I found the sessions to be inspirational, motivational, and without a doubt time well spent. The benefits for me were personally and professionally. I am so proud to be part of this valuable network. Thank you for reaching me out and encouraging me to take the time to come and learn.

When we join hands in acknowledging both the internal and external conditions that may pose challenges when doing business in our region, we have already began the journey of arriving at solutions, one step at a time. Along the way, we celebrate all that we have accomplished so far and support one another in the mission to develop professional women and entrepreneurs so that we all have a greater advantage of working towards our potential.

“Our partnership began as a result of a mutual research interest to study the engagement of women in the workplace and in leadership roles. Given the focus of work and mission of DBWC to promote and support the employment of women in Dubai, there was a natural alignment of interest and passion to make a contribution in this area. It was agreed that the study funded as part of the NRF-IRC Grant could contribute considerably to an understanding of the factors influencing women’s employment and leadership opportunities, and thus directly benefit the work of DBWC. The research, and educational expertise of the UOWD research team, combined with the practical and strategic application, of initiatives related to entrepreneurship and leadership amongst women by DBWC has made this collaboration a very valuable one, with fantastic support from DBWC throughout, and we look forward to continuing to work together to contribute towards the empowerment of women within the region.

Projects introduced to bring research into practice include the UOWD-DBWC Women and Leadership Seminar Series, launched with a view to contribute to narratives surrounding gender issues and factors impacting the emergence and enactment of leadership among women in the UAE, such that resource allocations can be prioritised in an informed manner. I was honoured to be invited by DBWC to run a workshop on how to ‘Think like a Search Engine’ – to help women be found on Google to win business, be promoted and find speaking opportunities.

It was a great session!  The room was full and buzzing with a wonderful mix of women – all nationalities, some working in corporates and some running their own businesses.

The ideas in the workshop were very new to most of those attending, but they were eager to embrace and learn the tricks.  I particularly loved the questions and suggestions from the ladies to help each other.

The contribution from Dubai Business Women Council has played its own part in a report I have written Women Leaders:  Stepping out of the Shadows, about what women can do to reach the top.

My thanks to the organisers for a beautifully run session and to the lively and engaging women who took part – I wish everyone success..
