Self-management is an innovative approach to organizing work that aims to make every person their own manager. Many of the firms that have pursued self-management are among the most productive and profitable in their sectors. Nevertheless, prior to the current crisis, few firms considered self-management as a realistic possibility. Now, millions of businesses around the world have been forced to experiment with new modes of work organization, and many have been pleasantly surprised by the results. Self-management provides a potential blueprint for organizing firms—or at least some activities in firms—in a radically different fashion. More than a fad, self-management may provide us with a powerful tool for reimagining work in the Post-COVID19 world.
