Date: March 12, 2012

The Dubai Women Business Council (DBWC) has conducted a presentation about “Women in the UAE” during a recent visit by students from The Simmons MBA University at the DBWC headquarters. The visiting delegation consisted of 15 female students and was headed by the university’s Associate Dean Deborah Marlino and Professor Lynda Moore. The presentation was also attended by DBWC board members including Faiza Al Sayed, Fathiya Al Khamiri, Sofia Saleh and Maryam Al Noori.

DBWC President Raja Al Gurg delivered the presentation that focused on the achievements of businesswomen over the years. The presentation also discussed other key issues affecting women such as existing constitutional and legal protection for women, political participation, women in the workforce, women and education, businesswomen and entrepreneurs, women’s organizations, and the role of Emirati women in putting the UAE on the path of progress and prosperity.

Al Gurg said: “The presentation provided insights into the opportunities and challenges being faced by women in our society, while highlighting the growing importance of women empowerment as a tool for social and economic development. Dubai Business Women Council continues to host meetings with university students to breakdown social barriers and stereotypes and ultimately inspire more and more women to become productive members of the community. We are pleased that The Simmons MBA University supports our advocacy and we look forward to working with them on other similar projects in the future.”

Founded in 2002, DBWC motivates women to be productive members of the society, while encouraging role models to rise up from the ranks and inspire other women around the world, especially in the Arab region, to discover their true potential. DBWC organizes the high-profile monthly event ‘Majlis Business’ to provide information about the latest knowledge, skills and best practices for women entrepreneurs and leaders.
