Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), 07 July, 2014 – MasterCard and the Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC) recently hosted a workshop on people management skills for female entrepreneurs in the UAE, as part of the ongoing Ro'Ya initiative. The workshop, entitled "Your People", was the fifth of nine scheduled sessions being organized as part of the program. It was led by Scott Tierney, Vice President of Human Resources, Middle East and Africa, MasterCard.

During the session, Tierney helped participants understand the integral role that people management plays in achieving business objectives. He did this by outlining key considerations that business owners need to keep in mind during the various aspects of the employee life cycle including recruitment, training and development, as well as compensation and benefits.

"People management is a critical aspect of any business operation and a thorough understanding of this function is important for entrepreneurs looking to establish new ventures," said Tierney. "The aim of this session was to educate female entrepreneurs about this critical aspect of their business, so they can use the learnings to strengthen their business plans and, in turn, operate a more successful business."

During the session, attendees were encouraged to apply their learning through discussion and analysis. The Ro'Ya workshops will run until October 2014. All sessions will be hosted at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and will be facilitated by industry experts. Future workshops to look out for include: "Telling Your Story" scheduled on July 24 and "Show Me the Money" on August 14.
