Dubai Business Women Council underlines importance of women in business at SAP MENA luncheon

Council President Raja Easa Saleh Al Gurg highlights role of women in UAE economic growth

UAE, November 2013
Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC) recently participated at a luncheon series organized to discuss the important role of women in business by SAP Middle East and North Africa (MENA), a global technology business leader, at their office in Dubai Media City. SAP has dedicated the month of October to women and invited Mrs. Raja Easa Saleh Al Gurg, President of Dubai Business Women Council to share her challenges and success as a working woman along with her achievements as an inspirational business leader.

Mrs. Raja Al Gurg, President of Dubai Business Women Council and MD of Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group, spoke in depth about how women have contributed towards the economic growth of the UAE and the region and are continuing to do so. She also highlighted the value of gender diversity in creating higher business impact as women can. She also highlighted the important role that Dubai Business Women Council is playing in supporting business women in Dubai by providing networking platforms and monthly trainings and workshops to its members to empower them and add more value to their business skills. Meanwhile, Mrs. Elsa Babik, Founder & Managing Director of Promomz* and member of the DBWC, shared how Promomz* initially supported by DBWC, launched a unique online and mobile business application to encourage professional mothers in finding the right Work-Life balance to increase their contribution to their family and society.

Mrs. Raja Al Gurg said: “Given appropriate opportunity, women are capable of being as successful in business as men. We are fortunate to have visionary leaders in our country who have always emphasized on the role of women in growth and development of the country and its economy and have encouraged them to reshape their traditional roles. Therefore, it is not surprising to see a large number of women in the UAE, both nationals and expatriates, in leading roles in virtually every business.”

SAP MENA organized the luncheon series throughout October in dedication to women as the company feels that gender diversity is a business issue and not a woman’s issue. It also acknowledged that the talent of women is not being harnessed optimally in the business sector and assured that it is working to increase the number of women in management roles significantly by 2017.

Mrs. Nelly Boustany, Head of HR, SAP MENA, said: “Women are at the forefront of SAP’s diversity agenda and critical to SAP’s success is women in management roles. SAP is all about identifying and nurturing the world’s best talent, and we can only do that in a truly effective manner if we are an equal opportunities employer. I am delighted with the response we have had to our month of celebrating and highlighting the importance of women in the workplace, and thankful for the support and insight offered by organizations like DBWC.”

Founded in 2002, DBWC motivates women to be productive members of the society, while encouraging role models to rise up from the ranks and inspire other women around the world, especially in the Arab region, to discover their true potential. DBWC organises the high-profile monthly event ‘Network Majlis’ to provide information about the latest knowledge, skills and best practices for women entrepreneurs and leaders.
