‘I surround myself with a talented group of people that are opinionated and interesting. I try to remain very open to what others have to say.’ –Anna Wintour

The fashion mogul, Anna Wintour, has built a name for herself which is now often associated with her iconic stiff bob haircut and her oversized dark glasses. Looking in deeper into her steps up the career ladder, a certain depth, passion, and humanitarianism is uncovered.

A rising star

Anna Wintour was born in England into a very wealthy and prestigious family. Although she was first receiving a high-class education, Wintour quickly realized that her goal was incompatible with academics. She then dropped out, and soon after was working for Harper & Queen in London. Then at the fragile age of 20 she was already at her second job, and away from home in New York. Before long she was the editor of Vogue magazine. She kept it alive and relevant with many competitors on the market. She has not only built up a fashion empire in the form of a magazine, but also a name for herself. Wintour turned Vogue from a magazine to the fashion guide.

An influencer

Anna Wintour has not only influenced fashion, but also Hollywood. The blockbuster movie, The Devil Wears Prada, was tied to her. Her former assistant wrote the movie, and thus many parallels were drawn between Meryl Streep’s role and Anna Wintour. Although the stylish character was cold and aloof in the movie, Wintour seemed to be unaffected and attended in the movie premiere looking stylish in Prada.

What’s more?

Many would argue that Anna Wintour is somewhat cold-hearted, she surly not without a sense of humor, nor without a charitable heart. She has raised millions of dollars for various causes, and put some of the most famous designers of today on the map. She has helped Marc Jacobs be noticed, as well as jump started Thom Browne’s career. Furthermore, she has raised about $50 million for the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, and a significant amount for the Twin Towers fund, among many more. Anna Wintour seems to do it all.
